But like many rockabillies, his horse jumped the track and carried him away from the finish line and glory, in another direction. Kirkland was one of the pioneers of rock�n�roll in the country music clubs of Detroit, and finger picked a mean, swingin� guitar in local country groups during the 1960s. Contains tracks by Jimmy�s wife Cecelia together with unissued material and recordings Jimmy made with Hugh Friar and Johnny Powers. Many photographs and notes by Craig Maki & Leslie Kirkland.

There's also more session talk than has previously been made public, together with superior sound quality versions of some tracks that have been released; also included is a detailed 36-page booklet with notes by John Ingman and several previously unpublished photographs. This is, to use an overworked phrase, a 'must' for Buddy Holly fans - and our most exciting release since the Something Special from Buddy Holly LP in 1986. RCCD 3056 is in ouraward-winning LP style Rolapak, RCCD 3056J is in a standard jewel case .............................................................Nearly all of the twenty-four studio tracks on this CD were sourced from the original quarter-inch tape masters. Because of the age of these tapes and the fact they were not always stored in optimum conditions, we have done our best to restore the sound and technical quality to what it was originally as much as possible. In doing so and in order to present some fragmented recordings for your listening enjoyment, we have also created complete versions of two tracks where they did not exist originally. It is unfortunate that Decca Records did not retain all the out-takes of their sessions in 1956 as these would be fascinating to hear today (they were taped over or removed from the original reels so that the tape could be re-used) Some idea of the quantity of these can be guessed from the take numbers � although 'take 76' in the case of Modern Don Juan can hardly be taken seriously, especially as the 'slate' does not include the master number as most others do. It is frustrating to hear a take number announced and realise that the actual take has been removed. You may also hear the remains of previous recordings which were recorded over but not completely erased - examples of these can be heard very faintly at the ends of a couple of tracks. We are fortunate indeed that a couple of out-takes did survive, probably by accident, and that after all this time Buddy's fans are able to hear them in such great quality. Please bear in mind that most of the nineteen tracks on CD2 were not recorded in professional studios and thus some defects in the sound quality will remain. We have done our best to minimise any faults on these historic recordings. They are, simply, the best and most exciting early recordings of Buddy Holly, featuring for the most part, Buddy on vocals and guitar and Jerry Allison on drums � forget the White Stripes, this is rock'n'roll's finest duo!

A great 'lost' album from the 1960s - we've heard that claim before - but this time it really was an essential and groundbreaking album that got 'lost'. Through replacing the Beatles at the Star Club, Hamburg and after a request to Paul McCartney, Roger Bunn recorded some demos at the Beatles office in London in 1968 and somehow the tapes were sent to Philips Records in Amsterdam. Dutch producer Frans Peters teamed Roger up with arranger Ruud Bos and some fine classical and jazz musicians to record in Holland. All the album songs - including music and lyrics by Roger and John Mackie - were very original and far ahead of anything that was happening in the UK and USA at the time. Remember that in those prehistoric pre-Euromusic days there was little co-operation between countries for projects of this sort. This LP was one of a kind and that's probably the reason the album got lost. Deals were struck for it to be released in Germany and the UK - but both were on labels that gave Piece of Mind minimal or no promotion. We have added seven demos and studio recordings to the set, among them Roger's predictive vision of "In The Future" and the cynical "You and I" which tell of a world of never ending wars and home computers. And "Life Is A Circus", a classic song of its time - recorded - but never released - by David Bowie. Roger tells his own story in the 36-page booklet which includes tales of the musicians he worked with and for in his struggles against the machinations of the powerful big labels and reward organisations of the record industry - both then and now. Piece of Mind is a difficult album to put in a musical bag, with its fusions of jazz, blues and rock - and it is easily seen why Roger's music influences others rather than allows itself to be influenced by anyone. But if you liked the 'Top Gear' sounds of the late 60s and had thoughts of travelling East to Afghanistan along with Roger on the Hippy Trail, you'll like it. And as you take the Coltrane/McCoy Tyneresque "Road To The Sun" you'll wonder why this album never got to be one of John Peel's fave raves.... Ever since he was a baby Mike Berry dreamed of recording with the Crickets. Many years ago they agreed to get together and cut an album � finally, after many false starts and dashed dreams, here it is. Recorded at JI Allison�s studio in Tennessee with Chas Hodges producing and contributing the piano parts, the album was recorded over a few sunny days in November 2004. Although it�s a digital recording, everything else was done �the same old way� � live in the studio with as few overdubs and techie innovations as possible. The result is a super rockin� album, with Mike and The Crickets having fun on some old songs they all liked � you�ll like them too. The first edition of the album was produced in a limited quantity of 200 numbered copies for the Clovis Music Festival in September 2005 and these have now been sold. The standard Rolapak CD is now available with added photographs and insert - and about time too! All those who have ordered either version prior to release date have had a copy sent to them unless otherwise advised.

A long-awaited album from Rollercoaster, and a classic performance from the 60s by Davey Graham. This previously unreleased live performance was recorded by Geoff Harden while he was a student at St Andrews University in 1966. Geoff regularly carried his tape-recorder to the St Andrews Folk Club and on this occasion, after recording the evening's events, he was asked to erase the tape by someone purporting to be Davey's manager. Luckily, the reel survived and we negotiated with Davey and Geoff to release it in its entirety. The surprisingly hi-fidelity recording features Davey in great form vocally and instrumentally. This CD will bring back happy memories for those who remember Davey's folk club appearances in the 60s, and it will delight Davey's many new fans eager to hear Davey at his very best...............................................................
